Search Tips

Quick Search

Enter one or more keywords using any combination of the author's name, the book's title. You can also search by category using the drop-down menu. If you use more than one keyword our search engine will restrict the results to books that each match al the keywords you enter.

Here are some example:

  • Entering "rowan williams" finds books by and about Rowan Williams.
  • Entering "Williams" find books by and about Rowan Williams as well as books by other authors named Williams.
  • Entering "sea of faith" finds The Sea of Faith.
  • Entering "sea" and "faith" also finds The Sea of Faith.

Author Searches

You can search by exact name, surname or first name (or initials).

Exact Name: Enter the author's name exactly as it appears on the book. You can search by first name, surname or surname, first name.

  • Surname: You may enter the author's name in any of the ways listed below:
  • Surname, First name(s) - Taylor John
  • Surname, Initial(s) - Taylor J
  • First name, Surname - John Taylor
  • First Initial, Surname - J Taylor
  • Surname - Taylor

The search will find books in our database under names that seem to match your search specification. If you specified "Taylor" you will find all titles where Taylor is in the author's name.

Cannot spell the author's surname? Use the Start of Surname option, and enter your best guess for the first few letters. For example, "lin" will find Andrew Linzey. For authors with multiword last names, enter only the first word or the start of the first word. For example "mul" will find Gieko Muller-Fahrenholz.

For an author with a double-barrelled surname, make sure you use a comma (e.g. Dudley Smith, Timothy or Dudley-Smith, Timothy). To search without a first name or initials, type the complete surname, followed by a comma (e.g. Radford Ruether,). If this does not find all the books by the author, you might also try searching by the last word of the author's surname (e.g. Ruether).

Title Searches

Title word(s): Enter the main words of the title. It's best if you leave out common words such as the. For example, "early church" will find the SCM Classic by W H C Frend.

Start(s) of the Title Word(s): Include the beginning (three or more letters) of the main words in the title. For example "tow jew" will find "Toward a Jewish Theology of Liberation".
