Aspiring Authors
SCM Press publishes books in theology, religious studies, biblical
studies, philosophy and ethics. Our list includes everything from
core texts to research monographs. Our main target markets are
universities and theological education, both UK and worldwide. The
guidelines below offer information for those who are contracted
authors, and those who are seeking to publish.
Please don't send us proposals for dissertations, fiction,
poetry, drama, children's books, books of specialist local
interest, or - as a general rule - multi-authored collections of
essays or symposium papers.
- Please look at our current titles carefully before submitting
your manuscript to ensure that we are the publisher best suited to
publish your work.
- In the first instance, please send the contents page of your
manuscript, a short synopsis and a first chapter to the
commissioning editor. Please do not send us an entire
manuscript.
- Within reason we will be happy to return material to you
provided that you enclose a stamped-addressed envelope.
SCM Press Proposal
Guidelines
Guidelines for Contracted Authors
Once your proposal has been agreed by the commissioning
editor we will send you a contract along with our author guidelines
and author questionnaire. The guide for authors provides extensive
information about preparing your manuscript and disk, our
house-style, indexing, and permissions, for example.
It is vital that you inform either the commissioning
editor or the editorial manager if you are unlikely to meet the
submission date.
It is important that you adhere to our house-style when
preparing your text, as this will make the editorial process as
easy as possible for the copy-editor.
The editorial manager will contact you shortly after
contracts have been exchanged with a proposed publication date,
production schedule, and information about who will be copy-editing
your book. We will also let you know when you can expect your set
of proofs to arrive.
If you have any questions about your manuscript/book
please contact
us
Please do not send us originals of manuscripts, disks,
photographs, illustrations or anything else. We cannot accept
responsibility for irreplaceable materials.
